August 2004:
The electric trays were made to install
electric cable system in future time.
Angle bars that will support the
bulkheads were welded in place.
Right cut out for the port holes were
made.
Imported and installed the VETUS
Hydraulic steering piston.
Transporting Sailboat hull:
During many days we were searching for a new
right and safe place to move the boat for the next construction steps. Also
the safe and cheap transport means to be used for the operation.
(Plan A) Was decided to drop the boat in
the Magdalena River and tow using one small tug boat to the new location:
Club de Pesca de Barranquilla (Barranquilla Fishing Yacht Club), about 3
Nautical miles up river. The access channel from the River to the Club was
previously sounded to make sure the boat will leave when ready with the
final draft ( 6 feets ).
Every thing was prepared for the operation,
including new cradle that will be used to take the boat out from the water
to the yacht club yard. But the owner of the Crane barge that will be used
to lift from shore and drop the boat into the river was charging one absurd
hire price for about 30 minutes operation. Was decided tranport the boat
throughout the Barranquilla streets loaded over one special track (as shown
in photos). Therefore the plan A was aborted and plan B prepared carefully
for transport Operation programed to be done on August 27/ 2004.
Legal report, permission and paper works
were made with the port and transit authoritys.
Using hydraulick jacks the boat was lifted
to the track and the same way unloaded saving money without using expensive
charges with cranes.
The operation was successfully done on
August 27 and 28. The two twin sailing boat hulls were moved to new location
where they will stay until be launched definitely to the water some months
latter from now.
On the Barranquilla Fishing Yacht Club (
Club de pesca de Barranquilla) will be made the final jobs such as: deck and
interior wooden decoration, Electric and electronic equipments instalation,
mast and rigin instalation, etc, etc.
From September 2004 to January 2005:
Great jobs in Barranquilla are temporary suspended to get save money, in
the mean time my brother Jaime Castro Caicedo (Mechanical engineer)
are engaged in the fabrication of many devices such as: Hand rails, port
holes, windows, and windows frames, pedestal, Anchor support, etc. Such
devices are being done in Pasto city, many kilometers away from
Barranquilla. At his work shop Jaime is making devices as beautiful and
proffesional as any big mariner supplayer (eg. West Marine, Sail net, Vetus,
etc).You can see some photos
clicking here.
August 2005:
After many months with the jobs stop due to my work, at this time was
installed the deck and lateral windows. Was intalled also the pedestal and
hydraulic steering system with the rudder wheel.
Was installed also the transducer case for
the Echosonunder.
During this period My mother was all te
time together with me helping; She was in charge of provide all the time
cool fresh drinking water for Us, due to the hot days predominant in
Barraquilla.
To her it was hard due to she come from
Pasto tha si one cool city in Colombia (average 15 degrees ) But she wanted
to know my boat. She always gave me moral support, and positive energies.

coupling. It was needed to make special adapter to fit properly with the
gear box. Also was made one adapter for the Lazer device that will be used
to aligne the propeller shaft.

Generator set installed on place,
cooling water pump and exhaust also intalled.
Many small works details were done
this year.
Not big improves this year due to
my short budget but... easy I does it. By and by I will get my target.
July 2009
July 2009:
The wet Exhaust system for the main
engine was finished, proper hoses resistent to high temperature
installed. Wet exhaust system for the generator was installed as well. For
this system one other wet mixer was custom made in Barranquilla.
I
have discovered at the calle 30 one place where is
selled all kind of used stainlees steel materials, used but in very good
conditiosn, you can chose avery thing you need. The choose one is charged by
kilogram, therefore it is much cheaper than buy at the normal material
stores. I choos all the material nedeed to make the water mixer for the
generator exhaust system. as shown on the photo. The water mixer is not
posible to buy allready done due to the uknow location and layout of the
exhaust system on the engine room.
On July the main
entrance door was made with stainless steel plates. The same mechanic
who made the water mixer for the main engine made the door; he was
niknamed CONEJO (rabit). Later time I discovered why for this nikname: He
use to take the mony to start the job but some times do no finish and
disapear with the money. Run away.
The carpenter niknamed
PAJARITO start to make the interior wooden doors and one other small things.
He is a good carpenter leaving far away from EL CLUB DE PESCA. He do not use
buses to come from home, he uses his old small bicycle, ride it aroun 40
kilometers daily. Transporting also his tools and wood on the bicycle. Soon
I will post his photo here.
One proper and safe
acces ladder was done this time.
The final epoxy layer
treatment was done, preparing the hull te be painted. I have decide to
change the colour to red, its looks like better. This is the final
treatement before launch the boat to the water. I had not done it before to
avoid burn the paint when cuting or welding performing other previous jobs,
from now not more hot works will be done at the hull.
Cooling water system
for the engine was finished. All hoses conected.
